Where do we go from here?

We don't need an arts organisation, we need a space to call our own. All for one and one for all, designers coming together for the common good - our own permanent gallery? Does this make sense?

Gregory Crewson

New York based Gregory Crewson is probably one of the most well-known and influential photographers working in the US today. Focusing frequently on the American suburban landscape, his carefully composed and dramatically lit photographs present strangely disquieting views of everyday life that one critic has described as being like a “demented Norman Rockwell.” Crewdson makes rather then takes his photographs, exposing the dreams, anxieties, fears, and desires that underlie everyday life.

Records

Probably one of the few classic (iconic) record labels that's well-crafted typographically and designed. Polydor tops my fave list, brutally simple.

Radiohead - House of Cards (MTV)

Zoo Films director James Frost has created a stunning new promo for Radiohead track 'House of Cards', which has just premiered on Google. In this video, a technological first; no cameras or lights were used. Instead, 3D plotting technologies collected information about the shapes and relative distances of objects and created entirely with visualizations of that data.

Steve Schofield

"My practice is concerned with exploring the fascination that the British public has with American popular culture and the sub-cultural world of fandom. In the images, I have shown people in their own homes and environments wearing costumes that they would be dressed in to attend events with other like-minded individuals. It seeks to offer a glimpse into seemingly ordinary lives of my subjects and allows the private to become public. The work hints at the depth of people's fantasies and the methods they employ to adopt this culture as part of their own lifestyle as a means of escapism."

Conceptual photography from Steve Schofield.

Imagination – Just An Illusion/Lindstrøm Remixes

To current punters, its 'mambo'/'retro'. To purists, its an underground club hit/good old fashion R&B track. Lindstrøm has created a pleasant lush rework on top of the original. Ahh... the lady on the front sleeve resembles Sylvia Kristel from cult 70's softcore film 'Emmanuelle'.

Lingerie | Stella McCartney

Lush photography and not to mention, very sexy apparels for the women. Stella's organic underwear and silk chiffon is the epitome of pure luxury. In the top fashion designer's new and first-ever lingerie collection, one of the 13 sets is made from organic cotton it does prove once and for all that organic underwear isn't only for hippies.

Dimitri Mavrikis

In memory of Dimitri Mavrikis (1959-2004)

Born in Montreal, he moved to Greece at the age of 9 where he spent his formative years immersed in his culture. He developed a passion and appreciation for the arts and in particular a love of photography. When he returned to Canada, this passion allowed him to find success as a fashion photographer. Recent clients included Harpers Bazaar, Italian Marie Claire and German Vogue.

Lo Recordings

New releases over at Lo. Not to mention various art direction duties from Non-Format, lovely sleeves & music.

Jon Tye, Lo Recording's musical director and man of many masks including Twisted Science, Hairy Butter, 2 Player, MLO and Black Mustang. In the past he’s worked with everyone from Derrick May, Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) Todd Terry, and many other strange and talented folk. And whilst there was a time when his DJ sets were likely ‘to clear not just dancefloors but whole buildings’... hmmm. Milky Globe is also the latest alias of his.

Black Devil Disco Club - Eight Oh Eight

From Lo Recordings. Pivotal third album from Black Devil Disco Club, if the last one was like 'Joy Division meets Giorgio Moroder' this one is more like 'Cerrone meets Salvador Dali'. Essential 'pure deep disco acid'.

All Back To Mine: Session.24

All Back To Mine: Session.24
5 July (Sat) ZOUK Winebar

\
'All Back To Mine' is a monthly bar night-out where we dig deeper into the depths of our eclectic music collection; inspired by compilations from 'Back To Mine', 'The Trip', 'DJ-Kicks' & 'Late Night Tales'. Not bowing down into the rigid genrefication of music, there's a lot of playfulness, upfront rhythms, emotion and warmth running through our selection with a delightful nod to the future, past and present. If you dig the sounds of Model 500, or Joakim rubbing shoulders with Todd Terje and Swayzak clashing onto the organic sounds of Antena, then this is the night for you.

So roundup your mates, lovers, flings, colleagues, siblings; grab plenty of drinks and make yourself comfortable as I indulgently playout y(our) favourite tunes.
\
12 April (Sat) 2008 10.30pm till late.

Awesome collage techniques and illustrations from James Dawe. I particularly like his art direction for the FabricLive club series of flyers for VillageGreen. This one featured above was slated to be used for Justice's mix for FabricLive series but apparently their mix has been dropped.

Chronotopic Anamorphosis

The video image is fragmented into horizontal lines and then lines from different frames [different times] are combined in a same moment in the display, creating a distorsion effect from the movemente of people and objects throughout time. It's what Brazilian researcher Arlindo Machado calls 'Chronotopic Anamorphosis'. The effect was completely based on Zbigniew Rybczynski's "The Fourth Dimension", but transposed to processing programming environment and performed in real-time.

This experiment was made within the context of Marginalia Project. More information about it, as well as the source code of this software [soon], can be found at marginalia-project.blogspot.com.
